15 Bean Soup Recipe
It is a magic ham and bean soup, but I cannot in any way take credit for the recipe.
I followed the directions on the back of a bag of Hurst HamBeens 15 bean soup!
This is a truly wonderful recipe that makes the soup of 15 crock pot beans hearty and perfect. Add a few ham hocks and you are in bean soup heaven. If you haven't tried this brand of 15 bean soup, you should. Their seasoning package is amazing.

1 packet of 15 Hurst’s HamBeens Bean Soup
8 cups low sodium chicken broth
2 ham shanks, 1 to 1 ½ lb
1 large onion
1 clove of garlic, minced
1 C. Chili powder
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
Juice of 1 small lemon
Sort the beans and rinse thoroughly. Pour the beans into a slow cooker. Add the chicken broth, onion, garlic and chili powder and stir. Place the ham shanks in the mixture. Cover and cook on high for about 4 hours, or until the beans are tender.
Remove the ham hocks and allow them to cool enough to handle. Remove the meat and return it to the slow cooker, discarding the bone and fat. Add the flavor sachet provided with the beans, the diced tomatoes and the lemon juice. Stir and cook 30 to 35 minutes longerr.
If you prefer, using the same method, cook over low heat for 6 to 7 hours.
