These melted snowman cookies are really cute and fun to make for the holidays. They take a little preparation, but you can bake the cookies one day and decorate them another day. Cookies also freeze well if you want to store them to offer holiday gifts. I saw them for the first time on the Better Homes and Gardens website.

1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon of baking soda
3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix the shortening and the peanut butter until well blended. Stir in sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Add the milk and vanilla, beating well.
Mix the cocoa powder and the flour until everything is well mixed.
Place the dough in the refrigerator for about an hour so that the dough is well refrigerated.
Form the dough into balls about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for about 10 minutes. Let the cookies cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to waxed paper so that they cool completely.
