One of my best childhood memories is that of the plate of cookies my mom would bring home from work over Christmas week. My mom was a hairdresser and this cookie plate was an annual gift from one of her clients.
This plate was always stacked with small stacks of classic holiday cookies like snowballs, chocolate folds and raspberry prints. If you love classic Christmas cookies, you’re going to love these adorable nut and chocolate cherry cookies!
Recipe for cherry and nut cookies
Finding the perfect cookies to bake during the holiday season can be difficult.
If you plan to bring your cookies to a holiday party or meeting, or offer them as a gift, you want a cookie that tastes good but will also hold during transport.
I have never been very lucky to offer complicated desserts. This is why I always opt for recipes that produce succulent results but easy to handle. These delicious nut and chocolate cherry cookies perfectly match this bill!
Plus, I love everything that is done with maraschino cherries. It’s one of those ingredients that takes me back to my childhood. We used to make a lot of hot fudge iced cups at home, and I always wanted extra cherries!
Cherries also make these cookies so pretty and festive. These are really darling little cookies. The combination of cherries, chocolate and pecans is right in my book.
If you’re one of those people who can’t eat nuts or just don’t like nuts, you can certainly leave pecans aside.
These cookies are not overly sweet or decadent, and this is one of the things I like most about them. Each bite has a bit of sweetness and crunch, and you will find yourself achieving two, three or more of these delicious Christmas cookies!
You are definitely going to want to try this easy Christmas cookie. It might even inspire you to create your own plate of Christmas cookies this season. If you do, be sure to add white Christmas Fudge while you’re at it.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt

Mix the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda and set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars. Add the egg, milk and vanilla. Beat until everything is combined.
Gradually add the dry mixture to the moisture and mix until well blended, scraping the sides of the bowl if necessary.
Stir in chocolate chips, pecans and cherries.
Place by tablespoons 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. After removing them from the oven, let them sit on the pan for 2 minutes, then transfer them to a rack to cool them.
